Miracle

One day you'll see that the earth was formed
To mould your feet One day you'll see that the sky was filled To let you breathe One day you'll see that Love was made for you To make you smile One day you'll see that the fresh wind blows To still your fears One day you'll see that the suns shines down To dry your tears One day you'll see that Love was made for you And you'll let him do a miracle Inside of you One day you'll see that a fire burns To warm your heart One day you'll see that you're a work of art That creation lives in you A miracle, miracle, miracle, a miracle One day you'll see that mountains rise To let rivers flow One day you'll find him on the other side Of your soul's sorrow One day you'll see that Love was made for you And you'll let him do a miracle Inside of you One day you'll see that a fire burns To warm your heart One day you'll see that you're a work of art That creation lives in you A miracle, miracle, miracle, a miracle |
A song about how the world around us is evidence of creation, of an invisible God.
I had the priviledge of singing this song at my best friend's funeral in 2009. We met in residence at university in 2000 and for two years became inseparable. She was a beautiful Indian girl with thick chocolate hair and a hearty laugh. Later she got married and I would head out to Cape Town's northern suburbs, guitar in tow, bringing with me new songs. She died of pneumonia and she was eight months pregnant - one of those tragic things you just can't explain. There were many prayer meetings at her family home that followed and I was asked to play Miracle again several times. And then the one evening her sister said to me, "Mary Anne, tonight the heavens are crying out that you must record this song". You see, it was always written in the stars. |
