Bittersweet

Is it morning again?
Is it time to wake up? Oh, its another Monday Another turn of the clock It’s the same old routine The same old disease Oh, I have all that I need But it tastes bittersweet I think today I will put my heart away I will join in this charade. Would you ever give it up? Cos I would sell it all for love Oh it tastes so bittersweet To have it all Is bittersweet Are you trapped in indifference Where there’s no time to breathe? It’s much safer to stay In this middle class ease Do you wonder what it would be like to live your dream As you lie awake at night, thinking What more could there be? What more could there be? What more could there be? Would you ever give it up? Cos I would sell it all for love Oh it tastes so bittersweet To have it all Is bittersweet Before its too late I’d like to live free And I’d like to get out So I’m down on my knees To pray, I’m ok But I won’t join in this charade Would you ever give it up? Cos I would sell it all for love Oh it tastes so bittersweet To have it all Is bittersweet Thought I had it all, but its bittersweet |
I wrote Bittersweet the same year I left my job in the corporate world and started working for myself. It's both a reflection of the way I was feeling at the time - I was desperate to find meaning - but also of the way I think many of us live our lives, going through the same old daily routines in order to retain our comfort levels.
Ultimately though, I'd sell it all for love. |
